How to avoid people just got a whole lot easier

7 Sep 2015

You can deny it all you want, but we’ve all had a point in life when what we want most in the world is to avoid human contact in any way, shape or form; to get away from it all for a while. Now you can with this new app.

Learning how to avoid people might seem a drastic step for some, but, in a world where technology is constantly trying to bring us together, it’s nice to get a bit of respite and use it to purposely avoid one another.

People avoidance has become fairly popular online, with demand for avoidance technology rising and leading to the creation of the app Split, which uses social media profiles like Instagram to help you avoid individuals you don’t like.

Avoid Humans, however, takes a less personal approach, showing you where exactly near you there are the fewest humans.

Much like Split, the app uses the social media apps Instagram and Foursquare to pinpoint this location.

So, for example, from the towers of Silicon Republic, Dublin 8, my nearest refuge point is the polo grounds in the Phoenix Park.

Each location is assigned a traffic light indicator to show whether it is a place for agoraphobics, or whether they should avoid it at all costs, and is then divided into different types of locations, such as cafés and bars.

I’ll stick with my nuclear bunker, thank you very much.
