5 films that sound way better ending with Dire Straits’ Walk of Life

14 Mar 2016

Have you ever heard a song and thought: “Gee, that would go great with the ending of a film”? Well for one man, Dire Straits’ Walk of Life may be the perfect song for every film.

The 1985 Dire Straits song Walk of Life is one of those great ’80s feelgood songs that seems to tap into the subconscious and make you dance awkwardly when the first notes kick in.

It’s perhaps for this reason that one man – Peter Salomone – suddenly thought that it might just be the most perfect song for any film ending, ever.

So, he decided to do a very simple experiment and get some of the best-known films from the last few decades and experimented to see how it sounded.

But why is it so good?

It proved to be so good that he decided to set up a website dedicated entirely to the idea simply calling it the Walk of Life Project.

While it sounds more like a wishy-washy wellness concept, you can’t help but admire and laugh at the simplicity of its brilliance.

When you actually sit down and think of the song, the chirpy opening synth melody can fit a whole range of emotions from happiness (obviously) to even more in terms of creating juxtaposition of a dark scene or even just a long panning shot.

But, enough about that, here’s my five favourite films featuring Salomone’s brilliant idea.

RoboCop

The Shining

Jurassic Park

There Will Be Blood

No Country for Old Men
