Online TV service Aertv’s new movie channel received more than 8,000 viewers in its first weekend. The channel is covering this year’s Jameson Dublin International Film Festival (JDIFF).

The Aertv Movies channel, which aims to promote Irish independent filmmaking, received 8,591 views last weekend.

The channel is initially being sponsored by Jameson and is showing 10 Irish short films over 10 days. It is also showing cast interviews from films being shown at this year’s festival and interviews from the red carpet with JDIFF’s guests, including actor Al Pacino.

“Our plan was to bring independent Irish movies to a wider audience global audience – movies ordinarily seen by smaller audiences or film festival enthusiasts,” said Philippe Brodeur, Aertv director.

“We are delighted with the reaction to the service and feedback from our audience so far.”

On Thursday at 8pm, it will show Jericho, a film by Liam Gavin, and on Saturday at 8pm it will show Dollhouse, a thriller by Kirsten Sheridan.
