Dublin-based telco Airspeed, which provides a wireless radio transmission network carrying data and internet services, has won contracts with Reox Holdings plc and RTÉ NL that together are worth over €500,000.
Airspeed will be providing services to RTÉ NL, the organisation that distributes and transmits programming from RTÉ radio and television, TV3, TG4 and Today FM, as well as site services to the emergency services plus mobile telephone and broadband operators.
Both the contracts, which were won following a tendering process, will last for three years.
RTÉ NL is getting a 10MB radio link that will connect its regional studio in Dingle with the RTÉ studio in Cork.
Reox Holdings, which does Dairygold’s network infrastructure, will be supplied with a high bandwidth local area network (WAN) which will connect the company’s sites around Munster with its main data centre in Cork.
Michael Costello, the group IT service delivery manager for Reox Holdings, said the firm initially used AirSpeed’s telecom network as a backup to their own WAN connectivity, but eventually realised that it would fare better by switching over to Airspeed as the primary network for its main sites.
“We previously had a 10Mbps connection but the implementation of the Airspeed Telecom network means we now have a 150Mbps WAN link. This offers us real business benefits,” he said.
“We’re extremely comfortable not just in using wireless technology, but in making it our primary WAN infrastructure. Areas like functionality, security and cost were all taken on board during the assessment process.”
Airspeed recently invested €2.3m in its network as part of a long term investment plan, a move that added more than 23 site locations to its network.
