Apple iPhone photos fascinate gorilla at zoo

9 Sep 2015

We’ve all been guilty of being those people sitting around a table with friends while everyone looks at their smartphone, with photos of such situations often used to illustrate just what is so wrong with modern life.

However, a video posted to YouTube this week shows that we’re not the only species over which modern technology has a hold – with a recording made of a gorilla in a zoo in the US seemingly being fascinated by the Apple iPhone a visitor shows him.

The recording shows a young man showing his iPhone to the gorilla, Jelani, at Louisville Zoo in Kentucky, when the man making the recording asks what he’s showing the gorilla he turns the phone around to show a photo of a gorilla with a human.

Jelani looks at the phone intently, in a most human-like fashion, while the young man swipes through photos, showing we’re perhaps not so different after all.

The video went up on YouTube on Sunday and has since been viewed more than half a million times.
