Blogger and Picasa to be subsumed into Google+

6 Jul 2011

Two of Google’s top brands, Blogger and Picasa, are reportedly to be renamed Google Blogs and Google Photos respectively, as part its wider Google+ social media strategy.

However, it is highly unlikely YouTube – effectively the second-largest search engine on the planet – will be rebranded simply because of the strength of its name.

But perhaps that is only a matter of time, since both Picasa and Blogger are also two of the internet’s top 10 brands, so a precedent is being set.

According to Mashable, Google plans to have the sites rebranded in time for the public launch in six weeks.

Google acquired Picasa in 2004 and Blogger from Twitter co-founder Evan Williams in 2007.
