Irish retailer Life Style Sports has launched a charity e-card service via its Facebook page in the hope of raising €10,000 for Barnardos this Christmas.

For every e-card sent using the Life Style Sports app, the sports retailer will donate €1 to the Irish children’s charity.

“This is our third year working with [Barnardos] and we hope to make a €10,000 donation from this novel initiative,” said Life Style Sports CEO Mark Stafford. “There are huge demands being placed on the services of Barnardos and no more so than at Christmas. This time of year is about giving and thinking of others.”

Users who wish to send e-cards using the app need to first like the Life Style Sports Facebook page and then click the ‘Comp & Barnardos’ app. Here, the ‘Barnardos’ link takes them to a selection of three e-cards designed by children of different ages who attended Barnardos projects.

A personal message can be added, and this can be sent to a friend via email or through Facebook. On Facebook, the message is posted on a friend’s page alongside the selected image and with a link to the app so friends can send their own e-cards if they wish (though, again, they will have to like the Life Style Sports page first).

“In these difficult times, we rely heavily on the generosity of businesses like Life Style Sports,” said Fergus Finlay, chief executive of Barnardos. “The Life Style Sports Christmas e-card is an easy way to spread Christmas goodwill and cheer to friends and family at home and overseas, while also showing support for Barnardos.”
