Comedy portal launched

13 Aug 2007

A new interactive comedy website has been launched by Northern Irish company Wild Rover.

Featuring a mix of professional and amateur content, ConstantComedy is a 24×7 service that allows users to watch content together and vote for their favourites in real time. The site has a strong social networking element which links comedy fans and performers from all over the world and features user-generated content.

At the core of www.constantcomedy.com is Synchronized Interactive Comedy, a breakthrough technology that enables groups of online friends to watch and vote for the same video at the same time. Each video gets shown for 20 seconds before voting starts. If the crowd rating drops below 30pc for more than five seconds, the video is voted off. Users can also post live comments that can be seen by other viewers.

Users can upload their performance to the site and monitor crowd ratings.

ConstantComedy is one of six showcase projects that have been selected to demonstrate the best of Northern Ireland digital content to the world in association with crea8ivity.com. Crea8ivity.com launched earlier this year to attract interest in Northern Ireland as a creative digital hub and to stimulate local creative and IT talent.

Phil Morrow, managing director of Belfast-based Wild Rover Productions, noted: “This is a great new venue for both viewers and makers of comedy. The internet has liberated performers: if you’re funny, you can get your stuff out there and be seen by a worldwide audience and if you love watching comedy, then this is the place where you can meet like-minded people and discover new acts together.”
