A lung infection wasn’t going to stop one groom-to-be from marrying his intended wife, so Samuel Kim married Helen Oh in a ceremony conducted over Skype while he was in a hospital’s isolation ward.
The couple, who had loved ones travelling to Fullteron, California, from Korea and New York for the 5 March wedding, decided to hold the wedding via the web video conferencing system.
Kim told Reuters he admired his fiancé for standing at the altar "alone and not crying the whole time". He said he held up pretty well, too, "not crying or anything".
Oh said that while the Skype wedding was not the perfect way to have a ceremony, guests were happy and Kim promised to be the best husband in the world.
Five live cameramen filmed the ceremony for guests to watch on jumbo screens in the church and for Kim, who was watching on a laptop.
Flowers, which nurses bought with their own money, decorated Kim’s hospital room, he said.
Kim said he expects to leave hospital this week and then he and his new wife will embark on their honeymoon to Paris and Prague.
