Facebook acquires iOS book app designer Push Pop Press

Facebook has acquired iOS book designer Push Pop Press for an undisclosed sum. However, Facebook is not entering the digital book space.

A former Apple designer founded Push Pop Press. It is responsible for creating an iOS book app called Our Choice, written by former US vice-president Al Gore on the subject of climate change.

The book app combined Gore’s writing with documentary footage, photography and animations, using a multi-touch interface to fuse it together.

However, Push Pop Press says Facebook’s acquisition wasn’t because the social network wanted to start offering digital books. Rather, Facebook wishes to gain Push Pop Press’ design expertise.

“Although Facebook isn’t planning to start publishing digital books, the ideas and technology behind Push Pop Press will be integrated with Facebook, giving people even richer ways to share their stories,” said Mike Matas and Kimon Tsinteris, co-founders of Push Pop Press in a statement.

“With millions of people publishing to Facebook each day, we think it’s going to be a great home for Push Pop Press.”

Our Choice will still be available and all future profits for the app will be given to The Climate Change Reality Project, a group founded by Gore focused on educating the public about climate change.
