Facebook is launching its location-based Deals service in five US cities to rival other social buying services, such as Groupon and LivingSocial.
Facebook Deals will be initially available in five US cities – Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, San Diego and San Francisco. Other cities will follow “in the future.”
Facebook has focused on making this a social experience, by linking with local businesses to help provide top social activities in the user’s area. Users can also share deals that they like with their friends.
One such deal being offered is from Austin City Limits Live. Users can get an ‘All Access Experience’ for concerts in May, getting backstage passes, sound check access and a catered dinner, along with attending the show.
Users can receive deals through notifications and emails and they can also check them through the Deals tab on their homepages.
There has been no word yet on when Facebook Deals will be seen in Ireland, but this first step will provide early insight into whether or not Facebook can stand up against other social buying services reigning in the market today.
