Facebook vs Twitter: it is on (again)

24 Jun 2010

We know Facebook has watched and borrowed inspiration from Twitter’s functionality previously – the live feed being a case in point – but when it comes to Twitter integration, Facebook may not want to play ball for fear of losing followers to the microblogging site.

Yesterday, Twitter introduced a new way to help users find friends through other social networks and services, including LinkedIn, Gmail and Facebook.

The microblogging site said one of the most commonly requested features from users “is how they can find and follow the people they are connected to on their social networks”.

The Yahoo!, LinkedIn and Gmail apps work a treat and pull in all those people you are connected to, indicating whether you are following them already or not. Very useful.

The Facebook app is not working and a statement on the official Twitter blog indicates that the problem is due to Facebook.

“The Facebook app cannot currently access your Facebook friend list. We believe this is an issue on Facebook’s end,” says Josh Elman.

A Twitter spokesperson told TechCrunch: “Facebook has notified us that they have blocked the update to our application, and we are working on a resolution with them.”
