The first Blackrock Animation Festival and Competition will take place on Saturday, 27 August, aiming to encourage talented animators both in Ireland and abroad.

The competition is looking for entries for categories such as best animated short for children, best animated short for adults, best Irish student/graduate film, best international student/graduate film, best feature film and best under 18s film.

A selection of the entries will be shown on the day of the festival at the Blackrock ‘Pop Up’ cinema at Urban Junction, Main Street, Blackrock, in Dublin.

The festival is being organised by the Blackrock Business Network and is supported by the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Design and Technology (IADT.)

“Blackrock is a thriving and vibrant town and our animation festival will reflect the diversity of businesses here, as well as the range of events and activities going on,” said Blackrock Animation Festival director Fionnghuala Ni Neill.

“The Irish animation industry is hugely important to Ireland and is well regarded internationally. The talent is exceptional and we are thrilled as a town to showcase it.”

The six winners will be awarded €500 each and will get a keepsake trophy from Dublin Crystal.
