Flipboard buys Zite from CNN in US$60m deal

Social magazine app Flipboard has acquired popular news reader app Zite from CNN in a deal estimated to be worth US$60m.

“By bringing the Zite team and technology to Flipboard, we can deliver an even more personalised experience to every Flipboard reader,” Flipboard CEO Mike McCue said.

CNN acquired Zite in 2011 to capitalise on the fast-growing mobile news market.

Flipboard allows users to aggregate their social news feeds and favourite news content into beautifully tailored magazine formats for their tablet and smartphone devices.

In related news, Flipboard’s updated Android app allows users to log in with their Google+ account.

There are now more than 6m individually tailored magazines hosted on Flipboard.
