On Saturday night at the Osprey Hotel, Naas, the winners of the 2012 Blog Awards Ireland across 30 categories were revealed, with food blog Wise Words taking home the award for overall best blog.

“I’m surprised and delighted to have won so many awards this evening, including Best Overall Blog,” said Móna Wise, author of Wise Words, who also took home the top prize in the Best Food/Drink category. “I have been blogging since 2007 and blogged even when I thought no one was listening. I would encourage everyone who thinks they have a story to tell to start blogging.”

More than 200 guests attended the ceremony, which recognised another food blog, One Man’s Meat from Conor Bofin, as Best Newcomer; Fluff & Fripperies as Best Fashion/Beauty; and mum’s blog Molly Moo as Best Personal.

“We were delighted with the interest in the 2012 Blog Awards,” said Amanda Webb, co-organiser of the event. “The strength and diversity of the 2,000 entries we received this year highlights the wealth of quality blogs in Ireland in a range of different categories, from politics to the Irish language, craft and eco/green issues.

“Choosing the winner of each category was a very difficult decision and we would like to congratulate the winners and all our finalists. We hope that the awards have gone some way to recognise the efforts of the blogging community,” she added.

The full list of award winners can be found on the Blog Awards Ireland website.
