INHOPE creates mobile app to report illegal content

25 Nov 2011

The Internet Association of Internet Hotlines (INHOPE) has launched a new app for reporting illegal content, including child sexual abuse material, via mobile devices.

The new app, INHOPE mobile, has a simple interface to allow a user to anonymously report any suspect illegal content through their smartphone.

The report will then be forwarded to the hosting country’s hotline which will investigate and report according to national legislation and, if necessary, inform the appropriate law-enforcement agencies.

The free app guarantees the anonymity of users as no information on the reporter or their device is stored or retained by INHOPE.

The app is available for iPhone, Android and Windows 7 devices.

Using the app, the user copies the URL of the suspect website, opens the INHOPE mobile app, presses ‘Report’ and pastes the URL into the field and presses ‘submit’.

The rest of the operation is automated and handled by a back-end server and a report is sent to the relevant hotline and INHOPE’s database.
