Instagram passes the 100m user milestone

27 Feb 2013

Instagram, the photo-sharing app company bought last year by Facebook ahead of its IPO for an estimated US$1bn, now has 100m active users worldwide.

Prior to its IPO last year, Facebook revealed it acquired Instagram for US$1bn. Post-IPO that figure was reduced to just over US$715m.

Instagram began as an iOS app that allowed users to not only apply filters to photos but also to share them within an Instagram social network.

In the past year, Android and web versions of Instagram have emerged.

“This isn’t just a milestone for us as a company, but one for the entire Instagram community,” Instagram blogged last night.
