Irish President’s website redesigned, youth Facebook campaign launched

25 May 2012

The President of Ireland Michael D Higgins has launched a revamped presidential website and a dedicated Facebook page campaign encouraging 17 to 26-year-olds to express their vision for the country’s future.

The presidential website hadn’t been redeveloped since 2008 and the intention is to give it a modern, contemporary feel with dynamic content like video. Higgins was inaugurated in November last year.

Dublin digital marketing firm Ebow was behind the development of the President’s new look website.

The Facebook campaign, which was launched to bloggers and media this morning at Áras an Uachtaráin, is called Being Young and Irish.

Citizens are encouraged to submit their vision by video, audio or in writing.

According to a statement, the redeveloped website is an interim redevelopment.

“The aim of this redevelopment is to give a more modern feel to the website and to update the content management system (CMS) to allow for easy, in-house uploading of text, audio and video.

“The website provides visitors with an overview of the presidency of Michael D Higgins, latest news stories and the president’s major speeches, papers and remarks. It also publishes the president’s engagement diary for the week ahead each Friday afternoon.

The site contains a section dedicated to Being Young and Irish, the first of a series of presidency seminars.
