It’s (unofficially) National Unfriend Day

Facebook users may be scrutinising their Friends lists today, on what US late-night talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel unofficially declared “National Unfriend Day.”

“I encourage you to cut out some of the friend fat that you have in your life,” said Kimmel, who announced the day on his programme last week.

The host said the social networking site is cheapening friendships and encouraged his viewers to re-evaluate their online friends on 17 November.

“I go on this Facebook and I see people with thousands of what they call friends, which is impossible – you can’t have a thousand friends,” Kimmel had said.

Kimmel suggested “unfriending” – or deleting from the Friends list on Facebook – anyone a user doesn’t consider a real friend.
