Jack Dorsey returns to Twitter in executive role

29 Mar 2011

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has announced he will be taking on a more hands-on role at the micro-blogging site going forward as executive chairman.

Typically, the announcement was made by Twitter CEO Dick Costolo via a tweet. “Excited that Twitter Chairman @jack will be returning to the company day-to-day leading product as Executive Chairman,” he wrote.

Dorsey followed up with his own tweet, which also revealed his intention to remain on as CEO of mobile payments company, Square, which he founded in 2009 and, like Twitter, is based in San Francisco.

“Today I’m thrilled to get back to work at @Twitter leading product as Executive Chairman. And yes: leading @Square forevermore as CEO. #200%,” Dorsey said in the tweet, which was posted yesterday evening.

Dorsey was CEO of five-year-old Twitter until 2008, when he was made non-executive chairman of the board.
