Leaving Cert looms, online supports for students and parents

1 Jun 2012

The Leaving Cert is starting next Wednesday, so we check out some online resources that might come in handy for parents and students, both study-wise and health-wise.

Firstly, health-wise, Spunout.ie has some advice on minding yourself during the exams. It has information on panic attacks and how to avoid staying up late to do cramming.

Skool.ie also has some advice on how to keep your stress levels in check and tips on planning your exam strategy.

For parents, Helpmetoparent.ie has advice to help people cope during the revision period.

As for some specific online study portals, Themathstutor.ie is a site that was set up by Eamonn Toland. He has teamed up with Dr Jim Cruickshank, a former president of the Irish Mathematical Society, to offer online tutoring around the project maths syllabus.

Between now and the Leaving Cert the online resource is free for students to try out.

Students of history and art might find the Gothic Past online resource created at Trinity College Dublin useful. Gothic Past is a visual archive of Ireland’s gothic sculpture and architecture.

Music students can check out the Leaving Cert section of Newschool.ie. The site itself has been set up by the Waltons New School of Music as an online music centre.

And Edcoeaxamcentre.ie is an online facility for students to do multiple choice quizzes and activities in subjects ranging from biology to chemistry, business, geography and economics. Tests are marked instantly online.
