MobileAware acquires mobile workforce player

2 May 2006

Irish mobile software company MobileAware this morning confirmed that it has acquired Broadbeam Corporation, a US provider of specialised mobile workforce solutions. The value of the acquisition was not disclosed. The company is positioning itself as a key player in the emerging field of Mobile Services Infrastructure.

Broadbeam has enabled blue-chip clients such as Bell South, Pepsi Bottling and TNT Express to reliably exchange real-time enterprise information with their mobile workforce across multiple wireless networks.

This adds connection management and offline access capabilities to MobileAware’s mobile content delivery and customer self-service solutions that are currently deployed by mobile operators and content providers across the globe, including Telstra, Cingular Wireless and China Mobile.

With this acquisition MobileAware says it expects to accelerate the adoption of mobile data services by providing the industry’s first comprehensive Mobile Service Infrastructure for creating, delivering and managing mobile solutions across all lines of business.

“More than ever companies are searching for a single vendor to simplify the complexities involved in launching mobile solutions, making issues around disparate data, device diversity and network convergence transparent to both the business and the end user,” commented Kevin McCloskey, CEO at MobileAware.

“Mobile Service Infrastructure provides a single, unified framework for securely and reliably delivering all types of mobile data solutions. Whether they are looking to launch revenue-generating consumer services, cost-reducing customer services or productivity-enhancing employee services, our customers can be confident that MobileAware will provide market-leading technology and expertise to meet their business needs now and into the future,” McCloskey said.

With recent advancements in mobile device capabilities and high-bandwidth wireless network availability businesses have recognised the strategic importance of mobile solutions. However, decision-makers have been confounded by the apparent complexity surrounding mobile data services, a situation compounded by the proliferation of mobile software providers offering a variety of point solutions that fail to address the long-term requirements of a complete mobile business strategy.

Mobile Service Infrastructure is a unified framework that can fully integrate with existing enterprise assets and resources to rapidly create flexible mobile solutions across all lines of business. Combining advanced client and server technologies, Mobile Service Infrastructure provides a comprehensive set of functionality to manage the entire lifecycle of a company’s mobile strategy.

“Mobile Service Infrastructure is a foresighted approach that provides a strategic solution to many challenges confronting mobile business,” commented Gene Signorini, vice-president of Wireless/Mobile Enterprise Solutions at Yankee Group.

“With advances in device capabilities and network bandwidth availability more and more businesses recognise the value of extending business processes to wireless users. They now seek market-tested solutions from best-of-breed vendors and a single infrastructure framework that addresses the conundrum of data, device, and connectivity convergence. With this acquisition MobileAware is positioning itself to meet the enterprise mobility requirements of business customers,” Signorini said.
