More than 15,000 sign up for O2 Money Card in first month

More than 15,000 people signed up for O2’s new prepay money card O2 Money within its first month and new apps have been released for the service.

Some 77pc of O2 Money customers are aged between 18 and 44 and 60pc of those who purchased the cards were men.

Seventy-six per cent of transactions with the card have been made online for retail, auction and airline websites.

The majority of the remaining 24pc of purchases have been used offline for supermarkets, pharmacies and convenience stores.

The O2 Money Card is a prepay card which allows users to load money onto it and use it wherever a Visa card can be used.

Users can only spend what’s put on the card and it offers chip-and-pin security. Customers can top up the card for values between €20 and €35.

The O2 Money card is available to purchase in O2 stores nationwide by customers of any Irish mobile operator who are over 18 years of age.

O2 Money smartphone app

There is also a new app for O2 Money for iOS and Android devices developed by 3V Transaction Services. The app lets customers transfer their money between cards in real time, costing €1.

The app also has a dashboard feature providing balance checks and transaction history. There is also a Google map feature to find the nearest top-up store location.
