More than 300,000 Android phones activated per day

9 Dec 2010

More than 300,000 Android phones are being activated each day, says Andy Rubin, VP of engineering at Google and overseer of Android development.

Rubin tweeted the figure earlier today. This is quite a jump from Google CEO Eric Schmidt’s previous figure of 200,000 in August.

Back in February, Schmidt said 60,000 Android devices were shipped each day.

This leap reflects the huge growth in popularity the mobile operating system experienced in 2010.

Android recently tied with iOS as the most desired operating system and now has more than 100,000 apps on the Android market.
