Netflix app on Xbox LIVE updates user interface in time for House of Cards

The Netflix app on Xbox LIVE is introducing new user interface elements to help fans discover trailers, cast and crew information directly on their games consoles. The new elements come just in time for the Netflix original series House of Cards, which stars Kevin Spacey.

Microsoft said that to allow users a greater opportunity to check out the first 13 episodes of the new series it is unlocking Xbox LIVE Gold for Netflix from today until Sunday (3 February).

Oscar-winner Spacey stars in the new series as a ruthless congressman.

The drama penetrates the shadowy world of greed, sex and corruption in modern-day Washington, DC.

After a difficult year or two, Netflix – which counts more than 1m users between Ireland and the UK – has emerged as one of the leading streaming platforms in the world.

In the US, 25pc of homes access Netflix. Overall, 55pc of American homes stream movies and TV shows over the internet, according to a study by Magid Associates.

According to PricewaterhouseCoopers, the US streaming market is expected to reach US$6.7bn by 2016, up fro US$3.7bn today.
