Nokia looking to revamp mobile UI for 2011

Nokia is looking to revamp the mobile user interface in 2011 and will launch devices based on this with Meego for 2011.

Speaking at the LeWeb conference in Paris, Marko Ahtisaari, director of design strategy at Nokia, said he wanted to give phone users a “head up” experience again.

Ahtisaari praised the iPhone’s interface as “beautifully elegant” and easy to use, with its singe-button and touchscreen functionality.

He felt that innovation in smartphones is not over yet and he also believes it was too early for smartphones with keyboards to die out.

He pointed out that there are 3.5 million app downloads a day in the Ovi store, with 1.3 billion people using Nokia handsets every day.

Ahtisaari also stated that while Nokia is interested in using other platforms for smartphones, Android isn’t one of them right now.
