Opera coming to Android, will introduce extensions

14 Oct 2010

Web browser Opera will release its mobile version on Google’s Android Marketplace within a month. They also announced that Opera 11 for desktops will include Firefox-life extensions.

Opera Mobile will be available for the Android platform ‘within a month.’ It’s currently available for Symbian and Windows Mobile smartphones.

The Android version will introduce pinch to zoom controls and hardware acceleration.

Opera’s desktop web browser’s next update, Opera 11, will have extensions, allowing developers to create new functionality for the browser using open standards, such as HTML5, CSS and Javascript, and supported APIs.

Opera has said it is similar to extensions on other browsers and that it has “tried to make it easy to port extensions from certain browsers.”
