Politics, business and humour top of the blogs

5 Mar 2007

The growing community of Irish bloggers held their annual shindig on Saturday night and for the second year running Twenty Major and his pals Stinky Pete and Dirty Dave picked up the best blog award as well as an award for humour.

The changing texture of the blogging landscape was made markedly clear this year as blogs made a fundamental leap from the posting of an opinionated tech-literate few to a broader range of subjects incorporating culture, music, sports, politics, business, technology and current affairs.

For example, Dingle based businessman whose Ice Cream Ireland picked up two awards for its specialist content and its business content. And in the Best Arts and Culture Blog category the award went to Sinead Gleeson.

This is the second year of the Irish Blog Awards, which were established to recognise the emerging writing and content talent in this field.

It is understood that the number of Irish people blogging on the internet have increased from around 1,000 to between 3,000 and 4,000 people.
