20 Jan 2010

Ireland’s State broadcaster, RTE, has unveiled a free iPhone application of RTE News Now, its 24-hour live and looped news channel.

The app will provide iPhone and iPod Touch users with video reports as well as the latest news, business, sport and entertainment stories from RTÉ.ie.

The ‘RTÉ News Now’ app allows users to watch 11 live daily RTÉ News bulletins, including two short mid-morning bulletins, the One O’Clock News, Six One News and Nine O’Clock News, two afternoon bulletins, Nuacht, News with Signing, News2Day for children and the late headlines.

The app will come with the latest local and European weather bulletins, plus the marine forecast every Friday, sports coverage within the main RTÉ One News, Six One News and Nine News, a variety of current affairs programmes, such as Prime Time, The Frontline and The Week in Politics, extended coverage of live events and Bespoke one-minute entertainment and sports clips which are scheduled throughout the day.

“With a growing appetite for news on the move amongst commuters, the ‘RTÉ News Now’ application means users can catch up on the latest news stories in text and video at any time over their iPhone or iPod touch,” said Múirne Laffan, executive director of RTÉ Publishing.

“The app is free and very user-friendly and will keep people in the know at all times,” Laffan added.
