S3 accelerates mobile TV chip rollout for Siano

7 Dec 2009

Dublin-headquartered chip design player S3 has helped fabless semiconductor Siano accelerate the production of Siano’s family of mobile TV chips.

Israel-based Siano develops highly integrated silicon receivers for the mobile digital TV (MDTV) market.

The company co-operates with ecosystem partners for modules, middleware and software applications, as well as with multimedia and application processor makers, to deliver complete MDTV solutions.

Production boost

A collaboration between technology firm S3 and the fabless semiconductor company Siano has accelerated production of Siano’s family of SMS1XXX mobile TV chips.

S3 has been working in Israel, through its reseller TBS Technologies, providing SoC design services and leading-edge mixed-signal IP blocks for some years now and now has multiple customers in the territory.

“Delivering first-time-right silicon can be a complex achievement requiring specific technical experience, as well as skill,” said Mike Murray, general manager, Mixed Signal IP, S3.

“We are proud to have been able to help Siano meet this goal and get them quickly to scalable volumes for their latest generation of mobile TV chips,” Murray said.

Two product lines

Siano is the only company in the mobile digital TV market to offer two complete, complementary product lines, MDTV Receivers and Antenna-Chips, providing a unique solution to the device makers.

According to Alon Ironi, CEO, Siano, S3’s expertise and consulting services “assisted us greatly in getting to volume production with first-time-right silicon”.
