18 Apr 2007

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has become the first airline in the world to launch a .mobi mobile domain site registered with the Dublin-headquartered dotMobi organisation.

The organisation responsible for the domain .mobi is backed by a consortium of tech industry giants including Microsoft, HP, Vodafone, 3, the GSM Association, Orange, Nokia, Samsung and Sun.

After a year in operation the company has over 450,000.mobi domains registered.

SAS.mobi is the mobile version of the airline’s website and allows travellers to access information such as check-in, timetables, flight status and EuroBonus, SAS’s frequent flyer programme.

SAS.mobi is another way for us to communicate with our passengers,” said Morgan Svensson, manager of IT Solutions at SAS Business Opportunities.

“We understand that business and leisure travellers need access to the most up-to-date information while they’re on the go. At SAS.mobi, passengers can check on timetables and promotional offers as well as get updates on flight status, news and weather around the world.”
