Significant number of Xbox Kinect controllers pre-sold

Microsoft and retailers’ decision to dispense with a midnight opening for the Kinect in Ireland last night was because the majority of available devices were pre-sold in advance, Siliconrepublic has learned.

Kinect for Xbox 360 will allow users to enjoy entertainment on Xbox LIVE and 19 Xbox 360 games controller free.

A spokesman said there had been sufficient pre-orders in Ireland that there was no need for a midnight launch. “It is definitely shaping up to be one of the must-have items for Christmas 2010,” he said.

The Kinect motion sensor costs €149 and comes with a free game. Gamers can buy a bundle with the latest slimline Xbox console with 4GB of storage and a Kinect for €299.

Up to 19 games are available at pre-launch, including piles of dancing games, fitness games, sports games and party games.

The spokesman said that voice-control features will be available in the Irish market next year.
