Subscribers to Sky Digital increased 14,000 in the three months to September reaching a total of 441,000 subscribers in the Irish market, BSkyB said today.

“More and more customers are choosing to join Sky for innovations like the first ever European broadcast of the Ryder Cup simultaneously on standard TV, HDTV, broadband and mobile,” commented Sky Ireland managing director Delia Bushell.

“The variety of products and services that we now offer is attracting new customers and offering new services to existing customers, positioning us well to continue our strong growth in the Irish market,” Bushell said.

The company said that across the UK and Ireland the total of Sky’s direct-to-home digital satellite subscribers was 8.2 million, an increase of 82,000 in the quarter.

Sky’s revenues for the quarter increased 11pc to €1.5bn, while the company reported an operating profit of €264m for the period.
