Tablet device software will soon be incorporated into BlackBerry smartphones, according to Research in Motion (RIM) CEO Mike Lazaridis.
The Canadian company’s CEO said the platform used in its tablet device, the Playbook, is also targeted for future smartphones that will run more complex, multi-core processors.
Opportunities
He told Reuters that by focusing on the tablet market there is an opportunity to “free where the smartphone can go”.
Lazaridis said in a previous statement: “We’re not trying to dumb down the internet for a mobile device. What we’ve done is bring up mobile devices to the level of desktop computers”.
The 9.7mm thick Playbook will be released in 2011 and features support for Adobe AIR applications and full Flash support.
