Steve Jobs, Apple's late co-founder and former CEO

The late co-founder and former CEO of consumer electronics giant Apple Steve Jobs will be posthumously honoured with a Grammy Award for helping revolutionise how music is distributed and consumed.

A Grammy Award is an award by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States to recognise outstanding achievement in the music industry.

“(Steve Jobs) helped to create products and technology that transformed the way we consume music, TV, movies, and books,” the academy said in a statement.

“A creative visionary, Jobs’ innovations such as the iPod and its counterpart, the online iTunes store, revolutionised the industry and how music was distributed and purchased.”

Jobs died in Palo Alto, California, on 5 October of respiratory arrest caused by a pancreatic tumour.

The Grammy Awards will take place on 11 February in Los Angeles. Jobs is being honoured in the Trustees Award category, along with recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder and musician, bandleader, composer and arranger Dave Bartholomew.
