TomTom Places arrives on Android devices

30 Nov 2011

TomTom has released its local search app TomTom Places on Android devices, letting people make specific searches for nearby shops, hotels, restaurants or tourist attractions.

The app is based on TomTom’s database of 10m places and works for Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and the Netherlands.

It provides directions to the place and accounts for the current traffic situation, though it does not provide turn-by-turn navigation.

Users can choose the best places, read opinions posted by others and can check opening times or contact the businesses. Searches can also be saved for quick reference later.

The Android version of TomTom Places is available now for free.
