Twitter exceeds 20bn tweets – and counting

Just six months after reaching its 10 billionth tweet, Twitter has now notched up more than 20 billion tweets, according to the latest count on GigaTweet.

At the time of writing, GigaTweet was counting tweets at a rate of 656 tweets per second and had already exceeded the 20-billion mark by 54 million tweets.

According to GigaTweet’s analysis, social networking site Twitter’s users worldwide are tweeting at the rate of between 3 million and 4 million tweets an hour and between 60 million and 80 million tweets per day.
