Twitter launching official Twitter app for iPhone

19 May 2010

Twitter is launching a new app simply known as Twitter based on the popular Tweetie app. Twitter acquired Tweetie last month.

According to a report on TechCrunch, the new version of Tweetie, simply known as Twitter, has begun its gradual roll out across the world. Apparently it has already been seen in New Zealand.

The new app – aka Tweetie 3.0 – features lots of new capabilities, including improved search, geolocated tweets and the ability to view top tweets and suggested users.

New users don’t need to have a Twitter account to starting using the app and can sign up to Twitter within the application, including a Suggested Users List and ‘Retweet’ has been given more prominence.

The other interesting thing is the new app allows non-Twitter users to browse Tweets and see trends.
