Twitter has introduced a new visual medium for hashtags – new stickers, including emoji, that double up as hashtags with meaning.
In a twist on traditional hashtags, users uploading photos can select from a library of accessories, emoji and props to place them on a picture.
Each sticker has a particular meaning. For example, a picture of a sunhat or sunglasses can mean #startofsummer and joins the appropriate timeline.
#Stickers is the latest tool to be added to Twitter’s photo-editing suite, along with filters, cropping and accessibility options.

Twitter said the ability to add stickers to your photos will be rolling out over the next few weeks for people using Twitter for iOS and Android.
Users will also be able to view and click on stickers on the Twitter.com website.
