51.9pc of British citizens voted to leave the EU while 48.1pc voted to remain

The UK pound has crashed to its lowest value since 1985 and a whole generation of British people are waking up to a new uncertain reality as it becomes official: Britain has voted to leave the EU.

Last night, most people went to bed thinking practical reality would win over fear-mongering and patriotic pomp.

Instead, the results show a new reality – or an unreality – as 51.9pc of British voters voted to leave the EU while 48.1pc voted to remain.
