UPC launches High Def TV service

The new High Definition Digital + TV service from Chorus NTL was officially launched today, bringing HD channels to customers across its national triple play footprint in Ireland.

Channels in high definition quality include BBC HD, Discovery HD, The History Channel HD, National Geographic HD, National Geographic Wild HD, Crime & Investigation HD, Eurosport HD, Disney Cinemagic HD and Biography HD.

Subscribers to the UPC service will also have the pause, record, replay and rewind functionality that TiVo/Sky+ offers and will be able to store up to includes functionality to pause, record and rewind with storage of up to 140 hours of live television.

Our Digital+ service enabling viewers to pause, rewind and record live television is performing well, with over 70% of new customers opting for the service. Combining Digital+ and our new HD service provides our viewers with an incredibly intense and vivid viewing experience across a range of channels.”

For new customers, installation of the HD Digital + Set Top Box is free if ordered online – otherwise, there is a once off connection fee of €30.

Nearly half a million homes around the country will be able to receive Chorus NTL HD service in phase one: it will be available in urban areas in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford with more areas to be released over the coming months.
