Viddy gains 300,000 members in a day thanks to Facebook Timeline

Video shooting, editing and sharing app Viddy gained 300,000 sign ups in just one day. This was attributed to the launch of its Facebook Timeline app, which has helped it experience ‘significant growth.’

VentureBeat reports that the social video app gained 300,000 new users yesterday, boosting its userbase to 4.5m.

Brett O’Brien, co-founder and CEO of Viddy, said this was helped by integrating itself with Facebook Timeline two months ago, which lets users add clips to their Facebook Timeline. He said it has seen ‘significant growth’ since this launch.

Viddy was released last year and allows users to create, edit and share videos shot on an iPhone. The app lets users add visual effects, music transitions and other adjustments to their video, along with one-click sharing to sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Tumblr.

There are plans for Android, Windows Phone, iPad and BlackBerry versions of the app. The app averages at 150,000 new users per day.

Viddy is the second most-popular photo/video app on the iTunes App Store, second to photo-sharing app Instagram, which hit the headlines recently after Facebook acquired it for US$1bn.

O’Brien noted that many users believed Instagram’s photo-filtering features could be applied to videos, which is what Viddy is targeting.
