10 Feb 2013

We take a look at some of the most-viewed and most-shared videos on the web. This week features Kai the hitchhiking hero, the incredible basketball skills of a two-year-old, the movie sins of Harry Potter, the prospect of 3D-printed medicine, and a cute little PSY fan waking up with a jolt.

More than 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, 500 years of video watched on Facebook every day, and more than 700 YouTube videos shared on Twitter each minute, ensuring there is always video trending on the web.

With so much video available for viewing, we take a look at some of the viral videos that have caught our eye this week.

Smash, smash, SMASH! (the Gregory Brothers remix)

The Gregory Brothers, who auto-tune the news, are perhaps best known for making Antoine Dodson an internet hero back in 2010. But 2013’s hero will be Kai, the homeless hitchhiker who recently made the news in West Fresno, and then the world. Kai had been picked up by a man who claimed he was Jesus Christ and then ploughed his car into another man before getting out and grabbing a woman who came to help. Kai grabbed a hatchet and – well, judging by the video’s title you can have a guess what happened next. The song has some NSFW language, but the original report from KMPH News is censored and more workplace-appropriate.

This video tracks Titus’ unerring baskets from the age of 18 to 24 months, and even shows his talent for trick shots, like shooting hoops while lying on a trampoline – sweet! A future NBA star in the making.

Everything Wrong with Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone

CinemaSins claims no movie is without sin and this week it will be braving the wrath of Harry Potter fans as they take on the first (and, admittedly, the worst) film in the franchise. This video counts down the sins of Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone (the film and book’s US title, those of you who are wondering what happened to the philosopher) in just over three minutes – and my does it pack a lot in there.
