Vodafone launches dedicated app for comedy festival

13 Jul 2011

As part of its title sponsorship of the Vodafone Comedy Festival, which takes place in Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens later this month, Vodafone Ireland has launched a dedicated app with details of the line-up, tickets sales and a personal planner for the four-day event.

The Comedy Festival App is supported by iPhone and Android devices and is available to download free from today from the Apple App Store and Android Marketplace or by free texting COMEDY to 50400.

Features of the app include an illustrated, interactive map of the gardens; the Comedy Box, a stand-up simulator that allows users to test their stand-up skills on their phones; and augmented reality functionality that gives users the opportunity to explore the event with their cameras, take part in challenges to win prizes and interact with comedy characters dotted around the event. There’s also a dedicated photo album feature which allows users to upload images and browse photos from the event.

The Vodafone Comedy Festival 2011 features a line-up of 65 international and Irish comedians and runs 21-24 July. Acts include Tim & Eric, who are performing for the first time in Europe; award-winning actor and comedian Omid Djallili; Stephen K Amos; and Never Mind The Buzzcocks’ Phill Jupitus, who will be appearing with the stars of Whose Line is it Anyway?

Irish comedy talent will include Tommy Tiernan, Jason Byrne, Dead Cat Bounce, PJ Gallagher, Andrew Maxwell, Ardal O’Hanlon, David O’Doherty, Maeve Higgins, Neil Delamere, The Nualas, Dermot Whelan, David McSavage and Kevin McAleer.
