A scene from last year's Web Awards

The Irish Web Awards are back with a bang and new categories, including Responsive Design and Financial Services, have been added. Nominations open on 23 August.

The Realex Payments Web Awards will take place on 1 November at the Mansion House in Dublin.

For the fifth year running, the awards will be MC’d by 2FM DJ Rick O’Shea.

Nominations are free and tickets for the ceremony are €30.

As well as Realex being the headline sponsor, the various categories are sponsored by National College of Ireland, PollDaddy, Wolfgang Digital, DoneDeal and IQ Content.

“For our fifth birthday we hope to see more than 400 people attend the event and see another increase in the nominations,” the awards’ founder Damien Mulley said this morning.

“This is going to be the biggest celebration of the web in Ireland this year and we’d love to see all our past records broken,” Mulley added.

A special launch party for the awards will be held on 23 August at Realex’s new headquarters on Sir John Rogerson’s Quay in Dublin as the nomination process kicks off.

“As a company we’re passionate about the internet and the Web Awards truly acknowledges the achievements and dedication of indigenous Irish internet companies, all of whom are nominated and voted for by their peers,” said Tracey Glynn, head of corporate marketing at Realex.

For the fourth year running, Siliconrepublic.com picked up the gong last year for Best Technology Site.
