Yahoo! Connected TV set for European rollout

2 Nov 2010

The roll out of internet TV has edged even closer following an announcement from Yahoo! and Samsung that will see the companies enable the distribution of Yahoo! Connected TV (YCT) across Europe.

The companies have announced that YCT will be brought to European homes on Samsung TV in 26 countries across Europe, bringing its distribution to 39 countries.

Samsung’s 2010 European internet-connected TVs will also feature a new full-screen Yahoo! user interface, as well as Samsung’s own Internet@TV service.

“Europe is at the forefront of interactive TV, and together with Samsung we are increasing the availability of Yahoo! Connected TV and delivering an unparallelled, personally relevant connected TV experience for consumers,” said Rich Riley, senior vice-president and managing director Yahoo! Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

An extended partnership between the two companies builds on the union which was announced in 2009.

The advent of internet TV has the potential to give users a completely different viewing experience, where they can choose their own content to watch from any number of sources, as well as interact with content and services.
