YouTube to lift 15-minute limit for some videos

10 Dec 2010

YouTube is removing the 15-minute time length limit on videos posted to the site.

A few of YouTube’s special content partners have already had the time restriction lifted on their content, but this latest move by the video-sharing site should enable longer videos for anyone.

The longer time limit on YouTube videos comes now because the company has copyright issues under control through ContentID, product manager at YouTube Joshua Siegel told the New York Times. ContentID scans about 100 years worth of uploaded video daily to try to ward off violations.

There is no word as of yet when the 15-minute limit will be further lifted.
