Gigglebit: control your own robotic 3D sculpting machine (interactive)

14 Mar 2015

Gigglebit is Siliconrepublic’s daily dose of the funny and fantastic in science and tech, to help start your day on a lighter note. Today, take control of a giant sculpting robot.

The innovators behind this giant robotic arm believe that in the future intelligent systems will empower anyone to directly engage with heavy industrial manufacturing technologies from anywhere on the planet.

ROBOCHOP is Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram’s second venture into robotics since the award-winning OUTRACE installation was hosted on Trafalgar Square during the 2010 London Design Festival, which allowed the public to take control of eight robots on loan from Audi’s production line.

This amazing robotic installation allows you to design your own 40 x 40 x 40cm cube using the ROBOCHOP app and upload your design for approval.

“If your design is selected for production, you will receive an email requesting your full name and shipping details and one of four giant KUKA robots at CODE_n will grab a foam cube and sculpt it into your design by swiftly manoeuvring it over a hot wire tool,” they say.

You will receive your custom object by post after CODE_n ends on March 20, 2015 – completely free of charge.

Amazing!
