Galway's Insight Centre was instrumental in bringing the world's largest internet of things (IoT) events to Berlin this October.

The world’s largest internet of things (IoT) event, IoT World, is coming to Europe, and Galway-based Insight Ireland, one of Europe’s leading data science centres, played an instrumental role in bringing the event to Berlin.

IoT World Europe will feature IoT leaders from Europe and further afield. It will be held in the Maritim ProArt in Berlin from 5 to 7 October 2015.

The event aims to raise industry awareness about the possibilities and the latest developments in IoT technology and is the perfect venue for industry and researchers to talk to each other.

Insight Ireland represents the single largest investment in R&D by the Irish Government.

‘We are very proud Insight Ireland is a partner, it is a major coup’

The Insight Ireland Centre for Data Analytics is one of Europe’s largest data research centres, with more than 350 researchers, 40-plus industry partners and €88m worth of funding. IoT is a key driver of innovations such as ‘smart cities’ but now also plays a major role in all aspects of industry.

IoT: transform knowledge into products and services

“IoT solutions and technology have matured after all these years of excellent research and it is time for industry to take over and transform knowledge into products,” the head of Insight Ireland, Dr Martin Serrano, said.

He said Insight Ireland was instrumental in bringing the IoT World event to Europe.

“Right now, there are industry-ready technologies that have been developed and are already in use, but companies simply don’t know about them,” Serrano said.

“The fact that IoT World is coming to Europe in 2015 is a huge opportunity to close this knowledge gap. We are very proud Insight Ireland is a partner, it is a major coup.”
