Facebook killer gets 35 years for murder of teenager

8 Mar 2010

A sex offender who used a fake Facebook profile to lure a student to her death has been sentenced to a minimum of 35 years in prison.

Peter Chapman (33) admitted to raping and murdering 17-year-old Ashleigh Hall, who he ensnared through his fake Facebook profile.

Ashleigh’s body was found dumped in a field in County Durham in England in October.

Chapman had created the fake profile on Facebook and used pictures of a boy in his late teens. He then used the alter ego to entice Hall into meeting him.

Hall, who suffered from low self-esteem, had told her mother she was going to stay with a friend but instead made arrangements to meet Chapman, who had previous sexual assault convictions.
